Regional Directorate for the Environment and Climate Change (DRAAC)
This directorate of the Azorean Government belongs to the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change (SRAAC) and is an authority in what concerns Nature Conservation and Environmental Quality. DRAAC is responsible for contributing to the definition of the regional policy in the areas of environment, spatial planning and water resources, as well as their guidance and coordination and assure their implementation. It is, therefore, the responsibility of this Regional Directorate to promote environmental awareness in its various aspects as well as the management of protected areas, species and habitats of the Natura 2000 network in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
Society for Environmental Management and Nature Conservation – AZORINA, S.A.
Created on April 12, 2010, this public company has the main objective of promoting actions of environmental management and conservation of nature and natural resources of the Archipelago. In order to do so, its purposes involve supporting the integrated management of protected areas, carrying out projects for the protection of ecosystems as well as promoting the Azores Natural Parks. Besides, AZORINA, S.A. is also responsible for the management of Environmental Centres and “Ecotecas”, through which it develops activities aimed at participation, information, awareness raising, education and training about environmental issues directed at the public. AZORINA, S.A. thus plays an active role in enhancing the natural and scenic resources and biodiversity and geodiversity of our Archipelago.
