Such as last week’s, this post is once again about Fajã das Pontas, since, thanks to the efforts of the São Jorge Island Nature Park, a previously unknown nucleus of the very rare species Lotus azoricus was found in this intervention area. Given the rarity of this species, of which only a few dozen individuals were known on the whole island, the discovery of about ten plants in a new location is an important indicator that there may be more Lotus azoricus specimens on the island.
This is one of the rarest Azorean species and, with Azorina vidalii, one of the target species of LIFE VIDALIA project.
