An exotic species that invades the coastal areas of the Azores and is present in most of the Project’s intervention areas. It is a succulent species that tolerates the sea breezes and is adapted to the colonization of rocks and sands, so it finds in the coast excellent conditions to its establishment. Like Hottentot fig (Carpobrotus edulis), which belongs to the same family (Aizoaceae), this plant disperses in a vegetative way, creating roots in the nodes along the long creeping branches, and through seeds, having a great capacity of colonization.

This species’ removal from intervention areas is one of the objectives of LIFE VIDALIA.
